A little about me. Art and technology are my two favorite things. After high school I went to MIT and studied electrical engineering instead of going to art school. Now, at age 45, my work is a remarkable blend of art and technology. I can look back and see how perfect my path was. I am a better digital artist than I would have been as a conventional artist. I wouldn't be using technology or have access to the Lucis patented image-processing software if I hadn't followed a technology and business path before turning back to fine art. In the fall of 1996 I founded an image-processing software company called Image Content Technology LLC (ICT). Our software is called Lucis®. Lucis is patented software that easily reveals incredible image content. It has numerous scientific and medical imaging applications. (An Aside: Lucis was featured on a Cold Case Files program called "Mark of a Killer." I processed bitemark images to enhance the teeth pattern, allowing Dr. Gus Karazulas, a forensic odontologist, to conclude that the accused had bitten the victim. Dr. Karazulas performed hundreds of bitemark experiments to prove the killer had bitten his victim at the time of her death. Click Here to read the white paper written by Dr. Karazulas.) After several years of pursuing scientific and medical imaging applications for Lucis, graphic designer and photographer Chip Yates convinced me to pursue artistic applications. Ron Lunn developed the radial artifact special effect that we later called "Plaid." Working with Chip Yates and digital artist Helen Golden, I developed several other artistic special effects and created an Adobe® Photoshop® plug-in called LucisArt. In addition to being sold on ICT's e-commerce site, LucisArt is available at the Adobe Store. Now I enjoy working with digital art instructors and artists to promote Lucis products to artistic communities. Please contact me if you are interested in being a sales representative for Lucis and LucisArt. In 2003 ICT finalized Lucis Pro 5.0, which had the ability to process each RGB channel of an image separately. With this software I developed my Interplay Art™ techniques. After creating 26 commercial pieces (and another 50 not-so-commercial experiments) I founded Interplay Art and created this web site. Every month I add new images to this site. I enjoy image processing more than I like taking pictures. I can look into an image and just "see" its potential. To date I have primarily used stock photography from PhotoDisc to create my art. I am developing collaborations with other artists to have access to their original images. I enjoy completing custom projects for customers, and hope to work with interior decorators. Please contact me if you are interested in working with me. My life is filled with variety. Most of my time is spent creating digital art, my highest passion. But I also tutor business, artistic and spiritual people so they can understand and use technology. I am writing a book about bootstrapping companies. I enjoy all of the fun, customer-support and managerial work for my businesses. I also complete the mundane work for my businesses, including web site development and accounting. Technology, especially software, enables individuals to accomplish so much with minimal outside help. The work is challenging, but I believe that self-reliance is a source of power and freedom.
